Know Your Rights
As a consumer, it is important to understand the responsibilities that come with the use of a credit card. But it is equally important to understand your rights.
Using a credit card isn’t just convenient, it’s downright smart. When you use a credit card to make your purchase, you have rights that cash and checks simply can’t match.
In particular, consumer experts advise concerned online shoppers to use a credit card for their purchases: "Paying with a credit card is the safest way to shop online" because "federal law protects credit card users if they don’t get what they were promised or if unauthorized charges are made on their accounts," advises Susan Grant, director of Internet Fraud Watch.
But credit cards are not just useful for online shopping, they’re useful for shopping, period. Most important of all is your right to dispute charges. Did you purchase a service or product that was not delivered as promised? Contact your credit card issuer, and they can put a stop on the payment until the dispute is resolved.
